Need to know more?
We always recommend a visit to the centre. This allows you to look around the centre and our facilities, meet the staff and some students who have attended the apprenticeship previously and also to get a general feel for the centre and how the apprenticeship is structured and delivered.
During your visit the Centre Manager and/or Senior Instructor will also meet with you to discuss the apprentice in more depth and answer any questions you might have which have not already been answered.
If you are unable to visit the centre we can arrange a pre-application meeting over the phone, via Skype or Face-time, whichever is more convenient.
Nicola Yalland. Nicky-Nackie-Noo!
I knew I enjoyed all things active, I had a place offered at University to study Sports Science but it didn’t quite meet what I was after.
After seeing the Haven Banks Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprentice position advertised I jumped at the opportunity.
The Apprenticeship allowed me to pursue new sports and activities, work outside and gain tonnes of instructing experience with groups and individuals of all ages and abilities.
I came away confident in my skills and ability to instruct and with a wide range of qualifications.
Since Haven Banks I have worked as a Freelance Instructor all around the World. The skills I learnt whilst at Haven Banks allowed me to get straight into leading groups but also opened doors to new things I hadn’t even considered such as events work and First Aid training.
I loved my time at Haven Banks and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to work as an outdoor adventure instructor!
After few years of jumping from job to job I figured out that a wanted an exciting career in outdoor education.
I was given the opportunity to do the Intermediate (Level 2) apprenticeship at Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, I had no qualifications but a strong drive to learn.
During my apprenticeship I gained National Governing Body qualifications in climbing, paddle sport, sailing, mountain biking, navigation and caving. Not to mention all the fantastic experiences of working with a diverse range of groups and individuals.
At the end of my apprenticeship I was successful in securing a full time employment as an instructor. As well as continuing to instruct a variety of activities i have also been given the opportunity to complete my Certificate in Education, allowing me to lecture part time within the further education setting.
Here at Haven Banks I continue to progress and thrive, I’m super excited about what the future holds and it’s all down to being offered an apprenticeship at Haven Banks.
